How To Help Others Remotely

Quick Assist is a Microsoft application that enables a person to share their device with another person over a remote connection. Repair technicians can use it to help their clients walk through issues on their computers while they watch along.  A phone connection will help so that the two parties can communicate and have a better understanding of what is happening.

Quick Assist might already be installed in your system but if not, it must be downloaded from the Microsoft Store. To install Quick Assist type “sstore-searchtore” in the search bar located on the Taskbar and select Microsoft Store App.

After the Store Application opens type Quick Assist in the search bar located at the top of the store app. Then click on install to have it load into Windows.

Type Quick Assist in the search bar located on the Taskbar and then select the Quick Appquick-assist-search quick -assist-app

Once Quick Assist Open you will be presented with a screen asking you if you wish to receive help or give help. If you choose to receive help the person assisting you will provide you with a security code. If you are communicating by phone the assistant will read off the code you will need to enter. If not the person providing assistance will email you the code with instructions on how to use it.quick-assist-opening-screen

If you are assisting someone then you will be prompted to enter your Microsoft Account. Once you have been verified you will be given a code to relay to the person you will be helping. Either email the code and the instructions or communicate the code by phone.

Now you must allow the helper access by clicking on OK on your screen. When you do the assistant will be able to see your desktop and both of you will be able to control your mouse.

Summary

Once you are both connected there may be programs that will require you to click OK for the connection to continue. Explain what you need and the assistant will be able to walk you through the problem while you watch along. At any time you may disconnect the link and any additional assistance will require the above steps to be completed again. The person giving assistance can never access or view your computer without you entering the code and clicking on OK.
